Western Cup 2020


As of March 13, 2020 – This event has been cancelled.

We regret to inform you that this evening, Frontier Performance has made the difficult decision to cancel this competition. 

Frontier Performance is committed to producing high quality fitness events that create a memorable experience for our athletes, audience, volunteers, and sponsors. With that in mind, and while recognizing that the full impact of COVID-19 on our community is unknown, we do not want to host a competition unless it is in keeping with the high standards we have set based on our past events.

In the next few days we will be reaching out to you directly in regards to a refund for your participation fee.If you intend on participating once we reschedule, please let us know and we will simply transfer your registration fee over.

Frontier Performance is looking at options on rescheduling this event, and once this information is available you’ll be informed.We are excited to share the exciting events we have planned, and we hope you will reconsider once our new dates are confirmed.

Frontier Performance has teamed up with @westerncupyyc to add a fitness division to their popular event. Same sex pairs, with RX or Scaled skill sets.

The Western Cup will see over 1500 participants and athletes from across North America competing in a range of sports tournaments including volleyball, bowling, curling, dodge-ball, and hockey.


Thursday April 9, 2020: Registration Mixer at the Hyatt Regency.

The kickoff event for the Western Cup. Register for the event, sign your waiver, pick up your swag bag, and get to know your fellow athletes participating in other sports.

Friday April 10, 2020: Event 1 @ Frontier Performance

Friday will contain a single event in the evening only.

Saturday April 11, 2020: Event 2, 3, & Final

Hotel Information

For the 5th year running the Hyatt Regency is hosting all of the Western Cup athletes and participants in their beautiful hotel.

At the Hyatt Regency, you’ll find modern luxury in one of downtown Calgary’s historic Sandstone buildings. Each of their rooms offer scenic city views, separate faucets with filtered drinking water, and an oversize work desk with an ergonomic chair. Spread out in a generous space where the soft colors of the Western Canadian Prairies accentuate contemporary design.

Discounted rates of $129 per night are available from Thursday April 9th to Sunday April 12th 2020.

Division Description

RX Division

This division is for anyone who wants to push themselves to the same movement standards and relative weight as the CF Open. If you are able to complete all Open WODs as Rx’d, you will no problem meeting the standards of the competition. If you’re on the fence, there is no better place to hit a PR than in competition. So get ready to be challenged, have fun, and put on a show!

You may see the following movements:

  • Snatch (165/115lb)
  • Clean & Jerk (245/145lb)
  • Chest to Bar Pull-Ups
  • Double-Unders
  • Toes to Bar
  • Deficit Handstand Push-Ups
  • Rope Climbs
  • Single Leg Squats
  • Proficiency performing any movements with dumbbells (50/35lb)
  • Possibility of some advanced gymnastic movements such as Ring/Bar-Muscle-Ups, Handstand walks etc…

Scaled Division

This division is for those who enjoy competitive exercising for the fun of it. If you usually scale in your gym or you’re new to the sport, this division is right for you. We are all about having fun at the Western Cup and while it will be challenging, you can do it. So don’t stress… Just show up, have fun, and get after it!

You may see the following movements:

  • Snatch (95/65lb)
  • Clean & Jerk (135/95lb)
  • Pull-Ups
  • Toes to Bar
  • Single-Unders
  • Modified Handstand Push-Ups
  • Hanging Leg Raises
  • Rowing/Bike
  • Modified Rope Climbs
  • Push-Up
  • Proficiency performing any movements with dumbbells (40/25lb)

*** These loads and skills are recommendations. We reserve the right to change or program heavier/lighter if desired, based on the experience of the majority of the registered competitors.

When you register, you will register your team as whole. Athletes do not register individually.
